Carbon Cycle
Carbon continuously cycles through living creatures, the atmosphere, the oceans, and Earth itself in one of nature's more amazing balancing acts. The main building block of life, carbon is fixed into all animals and plants. Animals release carbon dioxide through respiration . Since the formation of earth, carbon generation has roughly equaled carbon consumption . But mankind has altred the carbon cycle by adding excessive CO2 to the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.
To simplify the cycle, carbon enters the atmosphere through respiration, decay and waste products by animals and plants. Plants absorb carbon through photosythnesis which in turn animals eat the plants repeating the cycle of waste products, dead organisms and respiration. This fine balanced system has been disrupted by the excess of human demand to burn fossil fuels for automobiles, electricity and heat to name a few..
