Electricty Generating
Coal is 45 perecent of mine coal and it burns in power plants. The plus side of it is that its cheap and there is a surplus in the USA. The bad side of it is that it produces pollution, greenhouse gases, and there is a limited quanity.
Natural gas is 23 percent and mine by fracking. Its cheap, cleaner than coal, abundant in the USA, but it also produces greenhouse gases and fracking damages the environment.
Nuclear power is 20 percent produced by splitting of atoms, uses nuclear fission to generate electricty and heat. It does not produce greenhouse gases, is very clean, and creates lots of energy from little material. The negative side of it is the danger of nucleur meltdown and disposal of nuclear waste.
Hydroelectric is 7 percent and is generated by a dam, using the power of water to push a turbine. No greenhouse gases, creates reseviors for drinking water and recreation; but the dam disrupts rivers, water flow and life by flooding of lands.
Renewables are 3.6 percent; solar power, wind power, and biofuel. Plus side of it no greenhouse gases, unlimited quantity, and free running; bad side of it, expensive startup costs and developing technology.
